Coverage

Accessory Coverage

Accessories include equipment, devices, enhancements and changes, other than those originally installed by the manufacturer, which alter the appearance or performance of the motorcycle. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Any electronic equipment, antennas and other devices used exclusively to send or receive audio, visual or data signals or play back recorded media, other than those which the original manufacturer installed
  • Any additional equipment that is permanently installed on the motorcycle using bolts or brackets, including slide-out brackets (i.e., fairing, windshields, after-market handlebars, after-market seats, etc.)
  • Sidecars
  • Trailers designed to be pulled behind a motorcycle
  • Custom paint, custom chrome plating or custom exhaust
  • Safety riding apparel, including helmets. (Coverage is only provided in the event of a Collision loss. Theft is not covered.)

UIC provides accessory coverage when Comprehensive and Collision Coverage is purchased. Accessory coverage is provided at no additional charge for original manufacturer equipment up to 50% of the cost new of the bike. Accessories constructed by a separate manufacturer must be added to the value of the bike.

Liability Coverage

Liability Coverage pays damages due to bodily injury and property damages to others for which you are responsible. If you’re sued, it also pays your defense and court costs. Medical expenses, pain and suffering, and lost wages are some examples of what Liability Bodily Injury may cover. Liability Property Damage covers damage to property and loss of its use.

Every state sets a minimum coverage level. Selecting more than the minimum coverage would increase your cost now but potentially give you more protection in case of an accident. Since it’s impossible to know the most you’d have to pay if you were to cause an accident that resulted in bodily injury or property damage, be sure to take some time and consider whether you’d be able to afford any damages that exceed your insurance coverage. The higher your limits, the more likely it is that we’ll be able to pay all of the damages for you. Limits higher than the state minimum might be the best choice for you.

Collision Coverage

Collision Coverage will pay for damage to a covered motorcyle caused by the following, subject to a deductible:

  • Collision with another vehicle
  • Collision with an object
  • Laying the bike down

Higher deductibles lower your premium but increase the amount you’ll have to pay out of your own pocket at the time of a loss. Ask yourself how much you’re willing to pay when a loss occurs to save money on premiums.

Comprehensive Coverage

This coverage helps pay for loss of or damage to an insured motorcycle, not caused by a collision or vehicle rollover. Typically, that’s coverage for the following, and is subject to a deductible.

  • Fire
  • Wind
  • Hail
  • Flood
  • Vandalism
  • Theft
  • Hitting an animal

Higher deductibles lower your premium but increase the amount you’ll have to pay out of your own pocket in case of a loss. Ask yourself how much you’re willing to pay when a loss occurs to save money on premiums.

Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist Coverage

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage pays for damages that you are legally entitled to recover for your bodily injury. Medical expenses, pain and suffering, and lost wages are some examples of bodily injury damages. In general, this coverage provides what you would have received from the other person’s insurance company if that person had insurance. This coverage may also protect you if the person who caused the damage does not have enough insurance.
