CHARLOTTE, N.C. (December 17, 2018) – Gas prices continue to fall across the Carolinas as we gear up for the holiday season. A record-breaking 4.25 Carolinians plan to take advantage of these low prices and drive to their holiday destinations this year.
“Motorists are getting a gift this holiday in the form of relief at the pump,” said Tiffany Wright, AAA Carolinas spokesperson. “This may be a factor in the boost of travelers choosing to drive this year.”
North Carolina’s $2.26 average is the cheapest it has been since August of 2017 and the lowest December price the state has seen since December of 2016. South Carolina’s $2.02 average is the lowest it has been since August of 2017 as well and the cheapest December price since December of 2016.
Below is a breakdown of prices by region:
The national average of $2.37 is a nickel less than last week, 26-cents less than last month and six-cents less than a year ago. With gasoline production on the high side – 10 million b/d – amid low demand, motorists can expect gas prices to continue declining through year-end.
Motorists can find current gas prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android. The app can also be used to map a route, find discounts, book a hotel and access AAA roadside assistance. Learn more at AAA.com/mobile .
