AAA Carolinas: Gas Price Averages Jump on the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 8, 2019) – Gas prices continue to jump in the Carolinas and across the nation, to surpass the averages from a year ago at this time.

North Carolina’s $2.61 average is nine cents higher than a week ago, 25 cents higher than a month ago and six cents higher than this time last year. South Carolina’s $2.47 average (the fifth cheapest in the nation) is two cents higher than a week ago, 26 cents higher than a month ago and four cents higher than this time last year.

“As demand holds steady and inventories continue to tighten, pump prices remain on the rise across the Carolinas,” said Tiffany Wright, AAA Carolinas spokesperson. “Besides the usual jump the spring time brings, unexpected and planned maintenance to refineries continues to be one of the leading factors in why gas prices are trending upward.”

Below is a breakdown of prices by region:

At $2.74, the national gas price average increased a nickel on the week and is eight cents more than last year at this time. And compared to one month ago, gas prices are 28 cents more expensive nationwide.
