AAA Carolinas Releases Emotional PSA on Distracted Driving

Charlotte, NC (April 5, 2018) – AAA Carolinas released an emotional public service announcement to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving. The video release comes during Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
The purpose of the PSA is to bring attention to the dangerous habit of distracted driving. AAA encourages all outlets to share the video on broadcasts and websites.
“Distracted driving is of epidemic proportions on our roadways and needs our attention now more than ever,” said AAA Carolinas Foundation for Traffic Safety President Tiffany Wright. “We urge everyone to put down their cell phones behind the wheel and don’t engage in texting while driving. While April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, we want everyone to practice safe driving habits all year long”
The PSA, produced in Charlotte by Spiracle Media, features a mother who lost her son due to distracted driving. The 30 second version can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/WVOV1Kql6pI
In a recent AAA Carolinas social media poll, 74% of AAA members said distracted driving was a bigger concern on the roads today than drunk driving.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, distracted driving claimed 3,477 lives in 2015 alone.
While cell phone use is one of the biggest contributors to distracted driving, habits such as eating or grooming oneself while driving are also major distractions behind the wheel. A 2015 AAA study revealed that many hands free in-car technologies can also cause distractions for drivers.
“We hope that our PSA will be shared throughout the Carolinas to help change driver behavior and hopefully save lives,” added Wright
AAA Carolinas, an affiliate of the American Automobile Association, is a not-for-profit organization that serves more than 2.1 million members and the public with travel, automobile and insurance services while being an advocate for the safety and security of all travelers.
