CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 15, 2019) – Gas prices are up across the Carolinas, increasing amid more expensive crude oil prices, robust demand and decreasing gasoline stocks.
North Carolina’s $2.58 average is three cents higher than a week ago and 12 cents higher than a month ago, but 11 cents less than this time last year. South Carolina’s $2.48 average is up seven cents on the week and 19 cents on the month, but remains nine cents less than this time last year.
“While South Carolina was in the list of the nation’s top 10 largest weekly increases, it still remains one of the nation’s top 10 least expensive markets for gasoline,” said Tiffany Wright, AAA Carolinas spokesperson.
Since last Monday, 18 states have seen their gas price averages increase by at least a nickel. Hurricane Barry, which made landfall in Louisiana this past weekend, seems to have had little impact on the national average. The national gas price average is $2.79, which is an eight-cent increase since the beginning of July.
