Gas Prices on the Decline for the First Time in 2018

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (February 13, 2018) Gas prices in the Carolinas have decreased for the first time week-over-week this year. Prices have gone down four cents in North Carolina in the past week, with today’s average hitting $2.45. Prices have dropped three cents in South Carolina over the last seven days, with today’s average hitting $2.33. South Carolina remains one of the top ten cheapest states for gasoline in the nation.
Prices have declined on the national level as well. Today’s national average, $2.58, is 3 cents less than last week, 6 cents more than a month ago and 30 cents more than a year ago. Motorists can find gas for $2.50 or less at 53 percent of gas stations across the country.
“At this time, it is too early to tell if the price drop signals a long-term trend of lower prices,” said AAA spokesperson Tiffany Wright. “With consumer demand still high and spring travel just around the corner, prices could remain stagnant or slightly increase.”

Motorists can find current gas prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android. The app can also be used to map a route, find discounts, book a hotel and access AAA roadside assistance. Learn more at AAA.com/mobile.
