CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 1, 2019) – Gas prices have increased by 38 cents in North Carolina and 52 cents in South Carolina since New Year’s Day, but despite the climb, they remain consistent with the averages seen a year ago.
North Carolina’s $2.52 average is three cents more than this time last week, 22 cents more than this time last month, but two cents less than this time last year. South Carolina’s $2.45 average is five cents more than last week, 28 cents more than last month and one cent more than this time last year.
“The prices across the Carolinas from pump to pump could give some motorists sticker shock, as they depart for spring breaks trips and vacation,” said Tiffany Wright, AAA Carolinas spokesperson. “Unfortunately since gas stocks have been declining, prices are likely to increase in the coming weeks as demand continues to grow. “
Below is a breakdown of prices by region:
The national gas price average has increased 44-cents since New Year’s Day, landing today’s average at $2.69. While that is seven-cents more expensive than last week and 27-cents more than last month, it is only four cents more expensive than last year.
