What do I do with my insurance policies?

Let AAA Carolinas help with your move to a new home. We have handy checklists for our AAA Insurance members in North Carolina and South Carolina that make it easy to transfer your auto, home or renter’s insurance to your new residence.

Concerning your automobile - what to know:

Have your AAA Insurance Agent assist you with transferring your automobile insurance to North Carolina. This will allow you to obtain a NC Driver’s License (proof of liability insurance is a required document when getting a NC Driver’s License) and register your vehicle in the state which you reside.
All new residents of North Carolina who plan to operate a motor vehicle in this state must obtain a driver’s license within 60 days of establishing a permanent residence.

AAA Insurance will also assist you with directions to your closest NC DMV, as well as directions to the License Plate Agency, to have your vehicle registered.
We would recommend visiting NCDOT for further required documentation details.

Concerning your automobile - what to know:

Call or visit your local AAA office to talk to a AAA Insurance Agent who will gladly assist you with transferring your auto insurance to South Carolina. It’s easy and will allow you to obtain a vehicle title and registration.

If you move to South Carolina from another state, you have 45 days to transfer your vehicle title and registration. You may apply for the title and registration by mail. The first time you register your vehicle in South Carolina, you must provide the name of your insurance company. SCDMV will verify your coverage electronically. If the insurance policy cannot be verified, your driver’s license and vehicle registration may be suspended.

AAA Insurance will also assist you with directions to your closest SC DMV, as well as directions to the License Plate Agency, to have your vehicle registered.
We would recommend visiting SCDOT for further required documentation details.
